Case example 01

hsCRP verification review: unsuitable material or analytical failure?

A laboratory study raised concern about high-sensitivity C-reactive protein performance. The review found that the target configuration for the study material did not match the current analyzer platform. Four of five levels were within the illustrative 80% to 120% recovery criterion. One level recovered at 124.5%. The regression result was R² 0.98028 and the maximum observed bias was 24.5%.

DIRECTOR REVIEW STATUSInconclusive. Do not sign as an analytical pass.

The study alone did not prove patient-test failure and did not support an automatic whole-analyzer shutdown.

Primary finding

Material-target configuration mismatch limits interpretation. Repeat verification with platform-suitable, commutable material.

Decision protection

Separate study-material limitations from evidence of actual calibration or control failure.

Recommended action

A focused path for laboratory-director review.

  1. 01Do not approve the study as a pass. Record the material and target-assignment limitation and the unacceptable recovery result.
  2. 02Review independent evidence. Assess current calibration, daily QC trends, proficiency testing or peer performance, maintenance, and recent patient-result trends.
  3. 03Use a targeted operating decision. If independent evidence is acceptable, continue only with director-approved interim monitoring. If it is not acceptable or a valid verification is unavailable, hold and reroute the affected assay.
  4. 04Repeat the study correctly. Use platform-suitable or commutable material that includes the low end, the area near the 3.0 mg/L clinical boundary, a midpoint, and the high range, preferably in duplicate or triplicate.

Clinical benefit

A true upward bias near the 3.0 mg/L boundary could over-classify cardiovascular inflammatory risk. The recommendation protects that decision without assuming a material mismatch proves patient-result error.

Compliance benefit

The approach creates a documented investigation, director decision, repeat-study plan, and patient-impact review trigger if independent evidence confirms an actual calibration or control failure.

Operational and cost benefit

A targeted hold or monitored continuation avoids an unsupported whole-analyzer shutdown, unnecessary repeat work, wasted materials, and broad service disruption while preserving escalation when evidence requires it.

Case example 02

Laboratory cost opportunity model

This synthetic example shows how AssayIQ translates repeats, expired inventory, send-outs, and workflow inefficiency into a decision model. It is not an actual client result or a guaranteed savings claim.

OpportunityIllustrative annual impact
Reduce avoidable repeats from 2.8% to 2.0%$26,000
Improve inventory controls and reduce expiration$18,000
Review appropriate send-out conversion$42,000
Illustrative gross opportunity$86,000
Example assumptions require client validation. Implementation cost, contract terms, quality controls, volume changes, and realized performance may change the result.

How AssayIQ presents prior work safely

Clean-room recreations instead of blacked-out employer documents.

Synthetic or generalized values where publication rights are uncertain.
