Laboratory Cost and Quality Review service

Prepare a defensible laboratory financial plan for 2027.

AssayIQ connects reimbursement scenarios with the laboratory's actual test mix, costs, rework, and workflow. Directors receive an operational plan; corporate and finance teams receive a transparent model with assumptions, limitations, and approval points.

When to call

Problems this engagement can address

  • Preliminary payment figures are being treated as a single percentage loss across the entire laboratory.
  • Revenue exposure is not separated by payer, test, or participating site.
  • Repeats, QC, calibration, consumable waste, referral costs, and staff effort are not visible in the same model.
  • Leadership needs a practical response that protects testing quality and patient-service capacity.

What you receive

Review-ready deliverables

  • Agreed test-menu and payer baseline, with documented code mapping and data limitations.
  • Revenue scenarios separating preliminary rates from finalized reimbursement assumptions.
  • Cost-per-reportable-result review and a prioritized opportunity register.
  • Director and executive decision memo with implementation costs, quality protections, and pilot measures.

Approach

Clear work, review points, and decision ownership.

  1. 01Define sites, test menu, period, available financial data, and finance and laboratory reviewers.
  2. 02Reconcile aggregate volumes, actual payer receipts, current fees, costs, and code mapping.
  3. 03Model exposure and improvement scenarios with explicit assumptions and sensitivity checks.
  4. 04Agree a quality-protected pilot and update the fee assumptions after final rates become available, if included in scope.

Current source and status

CMS released preliminary CY 2027 CLFS information on September 21, 2026 and states that final rates will be published in November 2026. As of October 5, this service uses preliminary figures only as scenarios. A national weighted-median change is not a forecast of the client's total revenue loss.

Inputs and turnaround

Use aggregate test volumes, payer mix, actual reimbursement, reagent and consumable costs, referral fees, repeats, and agreed staff-cost assumptions. No patient identifiers belong in the public intake. A proposal specifies the data period, coding reviewer, review date, turnaround, and whether a final-rate refresh is included.

Pricing and corporate coverage

From $5,000 within the Laboratory Cost and Quality Review for one defined laboratory or process. Additional sites, broader test menus, data reconstruction, implementation, and recurring monitoring are quoted separately. A defined multi-site pilot starts at $25,000 under the corporate program.

What counts as a saving

Separate reduced expenditure from returned staff capacity, revenue changes, and modeled cost avoidance. Client finance validates the baseline and any realized result. Review corrected reports, QC exceptions, turnaround, and service availability before expanding a cost change.

Scope and professional boundaries

Financial scenarios are estimates, not guaranteed reimbursement or savings. AssayIQ does not submit payer claims or determine clinical necessity. Qualified client billing, finance, clinical, procurement, and laboratory leaders validate assumptions and authorize changes.
